Tricky fashion trends to be wary of this summer :

Fashion's always tricky, and this summer MoS will attempt to guide you through the potential minefield of fashion faux pas with some brief guidelines. We hope you find them helpful and people don't point and laugh at you in the street.

Perms. Yep, they look hot on famous people, like in Flashdance, or on Halle Berry, or Chloe Sevigny, but remember when you do a perm, there's no turning back. It's not called a "permanent wave" because it washes out in a few weeks, and if Nicole Kidman couldn't pull off the frizz, chance are neither can you. Fortune does favour the brave, however, so if you go for the perm, do it with gusto and be proud of your resultant fake afro. Or do it with hot rollers, that way it'll only lastuntil you wash it.

Sandals. Sandals are an essential part of the Bohemian look that seems to come into fashion for about two minutes every year. Flat, brown, retro-looking sandals perhaps with straps and bead detailing are the most coveted, with silver and gold versions also very popular. You might want to purchase stocks in Band-Aids when you first get your sandals, as jute and other sandal-type materials are regularly quite unforgiving on soft foot flesh. For more of a statement, a JC (Jesus Christ) style sandal from school days is a hot look. JC couldn't be wrong!

Kaftans/caftans. Whoever started this trend must have had Christmas in mind. Perfect for slobbing out in on hot days, the kaftan hasn't really been popular since Kamahl's heydey. This is mostly because it has all the shape of an onion bag and can make you look like you have a Messiah complex if done wrong. Other than that, though, they can't be faulted.

Oversized sunnies. There are too many pluses associated with big sunnies to really go through here, but the biggest one is the amount of face they cover. This is an invaluable trait when emerging from dark clubs in sunlight, or just emerging from the morning after work drinks. The only real drawback to big, crazy sunnies is potentially looking like Elton John. So be careful and get a second and possibly third opinion when you purchase. Looking like Eliot Gould from Ocean's 12 is OK.

Short shorts. And when we say short shorts, that is above the knee. Lots of girls make the mistake of confusing short shorts with hot pants - no. Never do this. You're not cycling the Tour de France, so there's no need to wear skin-tight shorts. It's a completely different look altogther - what you want is a linen pair of dress shorts to wear with high heels, sandals or cowboy boots. Hot pants just don't fit into the equation. EVER!

10 Best Spring - Summer 08 Fashion Trends

Vibrant floral prints and fairy motifs on featherlight fabrics make for fashion magic. Forget shrinking violets – this summer, florals are bold and beautiful in striking colours and near-abstract prints. For the ultimate in romance, floor-sweeping frocks have whimsical charm. Opt for an edgier take on the trend with sculpted silhouettes, short hemlines and off-beat, asymmetric shapes. Strong detailing – oversized corsages on shoulders, headscarves and ties – injects drama into the prettiest pattern.

Spring Fashion' 08

The spring fashions at the September preview in New York City can be summed up in two words, "anything goes." Spring fashions are meant to be playful, fun, and creative, while still incorporating the fashion "staples" of previous seasons.

The key accessory for the coming season, which is nothing revolutionary, is the belt. What is different for the spring are the shapes of them and what they are paired with. Belts seen on the runway were wider and thicker and dressed up with fringe. Belts were worn low on the hips with draped tops and flowing dresses. The belt is something we are all familiar with, however its pairing with flowing and feminine numbers is anything but overdone.

The dress was all over the runway this September and almost every designer included some variation of it. Knee-length hemlines with frilled edges and asymmetrical hems are going to be a must-have for spring, according to the kinds of styles that designers were presenting. Skirts this season were also redesigned to include fullness and swing using placed pleats or bias cuts. Donna Karen placed wide folds in linen skirts and belted it on the hips to create an incredibly flattering fit. Mini skirts are also back but this season they are incorporating the pleated and belted look also.

As far as prints for skirts and dresses are concerned, animal prints are out and florals are in. Also popular are geometric prints and anything with circles, stripes or squares. In other words, the animal prints should hibernate for the spring.

Skirts and dresses weren't the only loose and flowing numbers this September, featherweight tops in flowing chiffon's, voiles and lighter fabrics were an incredibly popular look. These tops were also shown with the new wide belt, cinched tightly around the waist. BCBG showed a simple chiffon pullover with sleeves slit from the shoulder to wrist in this season's floral print.

After several seasons of pedal pushers and capris, short shorts are making a comeback. For the spring, shorts cut to fall at the top of the thigh should be paired with bulky turtlenecks and loose belted tops, according to designers.

Cigarette pants are the final must for the spring and are replacing the ever-popular boot cut look of past seasons. Designers such as Calvin Klein are paring sleek cigarette pants with high heels and Gucci showed shiny satin ultra-slim pants with 1980's style pumps.

For those of you who did not just step of the runway, we will conclude with a list of the 10 most important things to be wearing this spring to continue being a fashion "do."
1) Geometric Patterns
2) Pinstripes
3) Belts
4) Off-the-shoulder necklines
5) Sparkling, shimmery textures
6) Gold
7) Blouson jackets
8) Shirtdresses and wrap dresses
9) Asymmetric slits and hemlines
10) Short shorts and hot pants.

5 Trends for Febuary's 2008 as pick by fortune

Now that 2007 is quickly coming to an end, it's time to cast your eyes on 2008 and after all, you don't want to suddenly find yourself stuck with a closet full of last year's looks! ...Do you ?

There are five big trends to keep your eye on 2008. I wouldn't normally turn to Fortune for my fashion advice -- it's a financial publication, after all -- but their picks makes sense. Grown-up, sophisticated, and right where mainstream style has been headed ever since we dumped that 80s resurgence once and for all.

Here's what you'll need in Febuary !!!

1. New boots , got to have at least one new pair .Look cool and casual without dressing like a slob.

2. Yummie Statement coat, make it like a goegeous. You will be lost without one this season! Whether it's a patchwork of different materials, a unique shape, or an interesting gleam on the surface, you don't want your coat to be basic. New details include cocoon backs, hoods, very wide arms, a belted waist, big collar, and rounded shoulders. Don't be caught this winter without a great statement coat!

3. Dresses : their have become a very big come back in this season. Its so nice to be able to play dress up. Most dresses are styled to fall just above the knees. This is a flattering length on most woman, and a comfortable length for most occations.

4. Jeans : Jeans, Jeans and more Jeans... It appears that most popular designers are betting that woman want a jean with a bit higher waist, and closer fit at the leg. Such as the straight leg, boot cut, and the skinny jean. Madonna has started the new higher waist jean in England, and this trend is quickly making its way across the pond... It might be nice to not have to worry about the dreaded muffin top?

5. Patterned Tights and hose : A must have this fall .
